How the Algorithm Works

Order-Flow Delta turns a normal candlestick chart into an order-flow read. Every trade has a buyer and a seller, but one side is lifting the offer and the other is hitting the bid — the net of the two is delta. Order-Flow Delta measures it on every bar and shades the chart behind the candles: gold where buyers pressed, terracotta where sellers pressed, brightest on the biggest imbalances. You see which moves had real participation behind them and which were just drift — on the chart you already read, with no separate footprint pane to learn. Below the price chart, a Cumulative Volume Delta pane tracks net aggression as it stacks up through the session — often still climbing while price chops sideways, or quietly rolling over ahead of a stall. On the candles, four effort-vs-result marks flag the moments that matter: where a new price extreme isn't backed by the order flow, where heavy aggression meets no price movement, where a single bar's delta runs to a historic extreme, and where a candle closes against its own pressure. Every mark is confirmed on bar close and never moves. Real bid/ask footprint data on TradingView is a Premium and Ultimate feature. Order-Flow Delta uses it automatically when your plan has it — and when it doesn't, it reconstructs the same read from finer-grained data, so the tool still works on Free, Essential and Plus, and on markets footprint data doesn't reach. What sets it apart from most order-flow tools is that it grades its own data. A live Confidence meter tells you, every bar, how much to trust the current delta read — full when it's working from real footprint data, lower when it's reconstructed, and lower still on forex, where there is no true volume and the dashboard says so plainly rather than presenting an estimate as fact. This is a structure-visualisation tool. It shows order-flow and volume-imbalance structure — it does not generate buy or sell signals and is not predictive of price direction. Only the forming bar updates as trades arrive, which is inherent to any order-flow tool; closed bars are final.

Core Feature Matrix

Delta Heat behind every candle — gold on net buying, terracotta on net selling, brightest on the biggest imbalances, candles left untouched
Cumulative Volume Delta pane with per-bar delta and a higher-timeframe read, auto-scaled — no manual mapping
CVD divergence marks where a new price high or low isn't backed by the order flow
Absorption zones — heavy aggression meeting little or no price movement, boxed on the chart
Extreme-delta and bar-vs-delta marks for climax bars and candles that close against their own pressure
Uses real bid/ask footprint data automatically on Premium and Ultimate; works without it on every other plan
Live Confidence meter grades the delta read on every bar and flags forex as an approximation
Non-repainting — every confirmed mark commits on bar close and never moves

Asset & Timeframe Recommendations

Crypto (BTC, ETH, SOL)

Where it shines — 15-minute to 1-hour on real traded volume. On Premium it reads exact footprint data; on any other plan the reconstructed read stays reliable and the Confidence meter shows it.

Futures (NQ, ES, CL, GC)

5-minute to 1-hour during the RTH session. Genuine exchange volume, so the delta read and the effort-vs-result marks carry weight — a Daily CVD reset keeps the pane readable.

Equities / Stocks

Daily and 1-hour on liquid names. On thin small-caps the Confidence meter will tell you when there isn't enough activity to trust the read.

Forex (EURUSD, GBPUSD, XAUUSD)

Supported, but the dashboard labels it an approximation and lowers the Confidence score — FX has no true volume. Read the marks as context, not measurement.

Order-Flow Delta FAQ

CVD is one line in the pane. The value is the delta read on the candles themselves, the effort-vs-result marks, and a Confidence meter that tells you how much to trust the number on every bar. CVD alone won't tell you when it's uncertain.
No. Premium and Ultimate get exact footprint data automatically. On every other plan the tool reconstructs the read, and the Confidence meter shows how solid it is. There's also a lightweight mode for Bar Replay.
No. Every confirmed mark commits on bar close and never moves or disappears. Swing-based marks appear once the swing is confirmed and are then anchored back to it. The forming bar updates as trades arrive — true of any order-flow tool, and disclosed.
A live grade of how much to trust the current delta read. Full on real footprint data, lower when the read is reconstructed, lower still on forex where volume is only a proxy. When the data is thin, you know — instead of trading a number that only looks precise.
No. It's a Pine Script visualisation of order-flow and volume-imbalance structure. It does not generate buy or sell signals and is not predictive of direction. It can fire alerts on divergence, absorption and extreme-delta events for your own webhook or notification setup, but it never executes anything.
