How the Algorithm Works

The Three-Drive is one of the cleaner exhaustion patterns in price action: three consecutive pushes in the same direction, each making a new extreme, each losing a little momentum — until the move runs out of participants. Three-Drive Exhaustion finds that structure automatically by fitting a trendline across the successive highs (or lows) of the drives and watching for price to break back through it. The tolerance around every line scales to the symbol's own volatility — it's measured against the 300-bar range, not a fixed number of points — so the same settings work on a 1-minute crypto chart and a daily index chart without re-tuning. A drive only counts once its swing pivot is confirmed by bars on both sides, which adds a fixed few bars of lag but means a printed structure never redraws or vanishes. When price closes back through the third drive's channel, an Exhaustion Signal prints on that bar. The dashboard then tracks the current read — Bullish, Bearish, or Neutral — how many bars it's held, the invalidation level that would cancel it, and the channel boundaries themselves, so you can see the structure the signal came from without hunting for it. This is a pattern-recognition overlay. It marks where a three-drive structure has completed and where it would be invalidated — it doesn't predict the reversal, size a position, or place a trade.

Core Feature Matrix

Automatic three-drive detection — a trendline fitted across three successive higher highs or lower lows
Volatility-adaptive tolerance — the break threshold scales to the symbol's 300-bar range, so one setting fits every market and timeframe
Exhaustion Signal printed on the bar price closes back through the third drive's channel
Non-repainting — every drive confirms with pivots on both sides and never redraws after the fact
Trend dashboard: current bias, bars held, invalidation level, and the channel boundaries
Optional live trendlines and broken-channel history for reviewing how each structure formed

Asset & Timeframe Recommendations

Crypto (BTC, ETH, SOL)

Works across 5-minute to 4-hour. The adaptive tolerance handles crypto's volatility swings well; lower timeframes print more structures, higher ones print fewer but cleaner. Confirmation Delay of 2 keeps the lag short.

Forex (EURUSD, GBPUSD, XAUUSD)

15-minute to 4-hour during the London and New York sessions, where the drives have room to form. On quiet Asian-session ranges the pattern rarely completes cleanly.

Indices & Futures (NQ, ES, US30)

5-minute to 1-hour. Opening-drive momentum often resolves into a three-drive exhaustion within the first hour or two; raise Channel Width slightly if session noise trips early breaks.

Equities / Stocks

Daily and 4-hour for swing-scale exhaustion after an extended run. Intraday works on liquid large-caps but expect fewer completed patterns.

Pine Script Parameter Presets

Channel Width 1.5 (tolerance band multiplier, 1-10)
Confirmation Delay 2 bars each side of a swing pivot
Trendline Lookback 10 bars (live-line pivot window)
Adaptive Threshold Scaled to the 300-bar high/low range
All-in-One Inclusion

Three-Drive Exhaustion FAQ

After three drives in the same direction, the indicator fits a channel across their extremes. The signal prints on the bar where price closes back through that channel by more than the volatility-scaled tolerance — a confirmed break of the structure, not a wick.
No. Every drive is confirmed by swing pivots with bars on both sides, and all drawing happens on closed bars. There's a fixed confirmation delay — that's lag, not repainting — and once a signal or line prints it never moves or disappears.
Usually not. The break tolerance is measured against the symbol's own 300-bar range, so it self-adjusts to volatility. Channel Width is the one dial worth touching — raise it if you're getting early breaks on a noisy symbol, lower it if breaks confirm too late.
It's the price that would cancel the current read — typically the extreme of the third drive. If price pushes back past it, the structure is no longer a valid three-drive exhaustion and the dashboard resets to Neutral.
No. It's a Pine Script chart overlay. It can fire alerts on a trendline forming and on an exhaustion signal, which you can wire into your own webhook or notification setup, but it doesn't execute trades.
